Ingredients
Grilled cheese and tomato soup is a classic meal to have on a cold day, or on any day when a craving arises. We decided to add a little twist to our grilled cheese with the addition of pear slices in the middle. The fried pears have a buttery and sweet flavor, which taste great with the warm, melted cheese and toasted, crunchy bread.
Directions
Pour the soup into a large pot, cover and heat on medium, until warm. Stir occasionally.
- We used two 32 fl oz containers of Pacific Foods Organic Cream Tomato Soup (USDA Organic. Gluten Free. Low Fat. Vegetarian. No Genetically Engineered Ingredients).
Slice the pears and add 1 tbsp of butter to a large skillet and heat on medium.
- We used Giant's brand of Sweet Cream Salted Butter (Gluten Free).
Add the pear slices to the skillet to saute them for about 2 minutes on each side, or until each side is browned.
Add the cheese and pear slices to the bread. We added 2 slices of cheese and 4 slices of pear, per each piece of bread.
- We used Arnold Whole Grains OatNut Bread (26g of Whole Grains per 2 Slices. Free from Artificial Preservatives, Colors and Flavors. No High Fructose Corn Syrup. No Hydrogenated or Partially Hydrogenated Oils. 0g Trans Fat. Cholesterol Free. No Monoglycerides).
- We also used Sargento Sharp Cheddar Sliced Natural Cheddar Cheese (No Added Growth Hormones. No Artificial Flavors. No Antibiotics).
Add an additional 1 tbsp of butter to the skillet and then place the bread with the cheese and pear slices into the skillet.
Heat on low until the cheese is melted and the bread is golden brown on each side. Optionally enjoy with a side of cranberry sauce, which adds a salty and sweet profile to the sandwich.
